What Sets Us Apart?
This month, I’m writing about why Rana Levy Jewelry is worth considering for your next boutique jewelry project—and how we differ from typical online vendors in quality, price, service, and product.
This is written for people new to jewelry, custom ordering, or working with independent makers.
The internet is full of engagement ring companies, gem vendors, and jewelry shops offering similar services. Most are one-stop shops with little to no customization and minimal customer service. Their goal is maximum profit: thinner, less robust rings sold quickly with little client interaction. Many are not based in the USA and may use questionable or unsustainable practices.
This model is fast and popular, but it prioritizes volume over pieces that feel personal and well-made.
What about cost?
A generic online shop will almost always be cheaper.
Here’s why:
- Most buy factory-cut, unoptimized, lower-quality gemstones to protect margins.
We cut gemstones in-house specifically for your project. Custom cutting takes time, skill, and attention—it’s a core specialty of The Pacific Lights.
- Most have no dedicated person walking you through details, and some use high-pressure tactics.
We are a service-focused boutique. We don’t push sales. We prefer strong referrals and genuine care.
- Most use thin, lightweight settings to reduce gold costs.
We design for lifetime wear. Our rings meet or exceed industry standards for width and thickness—more metal, more durability, higher cost.
- Most sell mass-produced designs.
Nothing we make is mass-produced. Every piece is made to order for your specific preferences.
Who we are
We are a small, independent gem-cutting and jewelry studio—currently just two people, a husband-and-wife team.
- We work with USA-based casters using recycled gold and metals sourced in the USA.
- Lab-grown gems come from factories we know personally that maintain responsible practices.
- Natural stones are sourced only through trusted USA-based vendors (and select European specialists) who visit mines themselves, including Joe Henley, Matthew Milstead, and Fabian Knapp.

What most shops don’t offer:
Custom gemstone cutting
- Optimized, custom-cut stones designed for your project
- Three design options emailed to you
- Computer renders created in Gem Cut Studio so you can see light return and movement before deciding
Example: A client recently requested an 11 × 8 mm oval blue lab sapphire. I sent three animated design options showing how each cut performed with light. He chose the one that best matched his vision.

• Your ring size

• Our designs are exclusive to our shop and our brand and are not seen or made anywhere else
Want something less custom?
• We do have a huge portfolio of very simple and classic settings too. There is not something we cannot make
Most jewelry stores will not offer you computer models and renders of your custom piece.
Even less common is having your ring designer ALSO be the owner and creator of your design and your gemstone.
• I send personal computer models/CAD of every project to ensure both client and myself are happy with the projects direction.
• I also send plastic 3d models of your ring (included in deposit) shipped to your door to make sure you are happy with your ring size and dimensions before casting.
This is a level of attention almost no big companies do for clients, but we think its imperative for clients to be happy.
An example:
• This piece was created by me for a client that had a vision of a kite gemstone custom cut with pave setting and additional wedding band.
• We created this CAD/computer model and the final piece is shown underneath,
• We sent her the CAD model in a plastic ring to her home so she could try on and see if she wanted anything changed.
• All in all - this back and forth only took us just 3-4 emails to nail down what she wanted!
